A happy family celebrate beneneath a rainbow of cups stretched across a clear, cloudless sky. In the distance there is a cozy homestead just beyond a clear running stream. The boy and girl dance with happiness beside their parents standing in an attitude of loving contentment with arms around each other.

*NINE OF CUPS*

A smiling merchant is seated with his arms folded amid a ring of nine cups artfully displayed behind him. The merchant is wearing a red hat decorated with a plume. His feet are resting firmly on the ground and he appears to be well satisfied with both what he has, as well as what he has to offer.

*EIGHT OF CUPS*

A red-cloaked figure abandons eight cups stacked asymmetrically by a river. It appears at least one cup is missing from this pattern. The retreating figure uses a golden staff to navigate the distant, winding shore. Overhead, the moon is depicted with a watchful expression eclipsing the sun in a dark, cloudless sky.

*THE SEVEN OF CUPS*

A silhouetted figure is confronted with seven cups in a dark swirl of mist. Each cup contains a different promise, a beautiful face, a serpent, a figure hidden beneath a cloak, a castle, jewels and other riches, a winged demon, and a laurel crown. It may be of import to notice how the cup containing the laurel wreath almost appears to be engraved with a skull. Behind this tableau, the sky is blue and unclouded. Only the mist around the offered cups serves to obscure the querents vision.

*THE SIX OF CUPS*

Here we can see two happy children innocently playing in a pleasant garden bordered with white flower filled cups. One child offers a sixth cup, also with a white flower in it, to the other child. The children, absorbed in their play, appear oblivious to a staff wielding guardian in the background.

*THE FIVE OF CUPS*

A darkly cloaked figure looks down at three overturned cups spilling their contents on to the ground. From one cup runs red, another runs green, and the third cup may have been dry to begin with as it does not appear to have left an easily discernable stain. Behind this figure there are two remaining cups standing upright. In the distance there is a city on the opposing side of a wide river and far downstream a white bridge crossing this river gleams beneath a gray and colorless sky.

*THE FOUR OF CUPS*

A youth is seated alone beneath a tree. His legs are crossed beneath him and his arms are folded across his chest in an attitude of apathy or reluctance. There are three cups standing upright on the ground before him. A fourth cup is offered to him as a celestial hand emerges from within a cloud but, the downward gaze of this youth suggests refusal or an unwillingness to acknowledge the offer. The sky overhead is clear and cloudless and the branches of the tree over his head are heavily leaved, as though in the fullness of growth.

*THE THREE OF CUPS*

Three women dance holding golden cups aloft to one another in an apparent toast to some kind of success. They are among heavily fruited vines signifying abundant growth through mutual effort and collaboration. The sky overhead is clear, cloudless, and brilliant blue. These three dancing women reflect the ages described as maiden, mother, and crone or wisewoman and therefore signify all the stages of life. One of these women bears the fruit of a vine in her free hand.

A friendly couple exchange cups under the watchful eye of the winged guardian of desire hovering overhead. The peaceful valley cottage in the distance indicates the potential of a happy and fulfilling partnership.

*ACE OF CUPS*

A hand reaches out from within a cloud of mist to offer blessings spilling fountain-like from a golden cup. The five streams flowing from this cup represent the five senses and a symbol is etched on the cup resembling a W or a reversed M. A white dove flutters above this cup bearing a white wafer bearing the sign of a cross. The pond beneath this cup is lush with blooming waterlilies and the sky overhead is featureless except for 26 droplets falling toward the pond.
