*KING OF PENTACLES*

A King sits on a throne carved with the recurrent symbol of the bull to suggest courage. Symbols of harvest decorate his robes. He holds a wand in one hand and a pentacle in the other to reflect material rule. His left foot rests on a small ottoman. In the distance there are the rooftops of a successful castle keep.
(Cardinal Earth = Capricorn, Material Authority, Business Acumen, Corruption, power, victory, good forces over bad, unseen strength)

*QUEEN OF PENTACLES*

A red-robed queen is seated upon a throne carved with images of fruited vines and cherubs. Her crown is adorned with small red feathers to indicate desire and beneath her red robes she wears a tunic of white signifying purity of intent. A green hooded cloak covers her head and shoulders indicating fertility and abundance. She is seated in a grotto of rich flowering vines and appears to contemplate a single golden pentacle in her hands. The sky behind her verdant grotto is cloudless and golden.

*THE KNIGHT OF PENTACLES*

A diligent knight contemplates a pentacle in his gloved right hand as he surveys the plowed fields in his care. Beneath a short red tunic he wears an armored uniform but his helmet is cheerily decorated with a sprig of greenery as is his horses' red bridle. His dark steed stands solidly and dependably without displaying any nervous antics yet the knights' left hand remains firmly on the reins. Upon his heel there is a golden spur. The sky is unclouded, golden, and sunlit.

*THE PAGE OF PENTACLES*

This Court Card shows a serious youth in a green tunic (representing material concerns) concentrating his fullest attention on the pentacle he holds before him. He appears to be focused on this pentacle to the exclusion of all else around him. Upon his wrist he wears a single bracelet. His head is adorned with an ornate red scarfed and plumed hat indicating a strong or complicated desire and the sky overhead is golden and unclouded.
(All work and No Play, immaturity, carefree, lack of knowledge that comes from inexperience)

*KING OF SWORDS*

His Royal Highness is seated with a serious attitude upon a throne decorated with images of butterflies (the symbol of unfettered thought). This throne is not in a castle or a royal hall it is outside, in the natural world. The king holds a sword aloft in his right hand. His left hand rests empty upon his lap as indication that he is capable of grasping more. In the distance trees stand motionless. Birds wing overhead in a the sky which is mostly clear with just a few clouds.
(Cardinal Air = Libra, Truth/Lies, Fair/Unfair, Quick wit and Intelligence, Judgement or Judgemental, barrenness (sic), transformation, lack of something)

*THE QUEEN OF SWORDS*

The Queen sits in profile on a throne decorated with butterflies and a cherub which are both said to be symbols of clear, unfettered thought. Her robes are sky blue and decorated with small clouds. Her crown is fashioned from golden butterfly symbols. She holds an upraised sword in her right hand. Her left hand makes an open-palmed gesture which may refer to an intuitive ability to grasp more than what is presented on the surface. A single bird soars overhead in a clear blue sky. On the distant horizon there appear to be stormclouds gathering.

*KNIGHT OF SWORDS*

An eager knight in shining armor charges forward, his trusty sword unsheathed and upraised in his right hand. The Knight is in battle armor and his helmet is plumed with red feathers to signify desire and determination. The white horse he rides leaps over rough terrain against the wind and his bridle appears to be decorated with a small, red, heart-shaped symbol. Though the Knight has spurs on his heels he does not seem to need to use them. A small flock of birds circles overhead and windswept clouds race across the otherwise clear sky.

An eager youth holds a sword aloft against a brisk wind. Shifting clouds in a blue sky offer a backdrop to the flock of ten birds in flight overhead and distant trees bow to the pressure of the whirling breeze. This youth wears red boots which may represent desire and a white collar which may represent innocence. He appears to be moving forward, but is glancing back over his shoulder as though reconsidering his direction.

A monarch, crowned and robed with the garments of royalty, is seated in profile to the right on an ornate golden throne. This throne is decorated with the images of large dragons and small lizards. Instead of a scepter, this king holds a wand budding with new growth in his right hand and his left hand, empty, rests against his side. On the dais at his green booted feet there is a small, apparently unnoticed, chameleon.

A woman is seated upon a throne with a budding wand in her right hand and a large sunflower in full bloom in her left hand. Upon the dais at her feet there is a black cat sitting in an alert posture. Her brightly hued gown is easily seen displayed beneath a white cloak to indicate vigorous desire beneath a cloak of purity.

He wears a brightly colored tunic over his armor as an indication of energy and his helmet is decorated with a large red plume to signify desire. In the distance there can be seen three pyramids, symbols of arcane knowledge, beneath a cloudless blue sky.

A youth stands holding a single wand before him as though in the act of proclamation. This youth wears a white hat decorated with a red feather. It is said the white represents innocent and trustworthy thought and the red represents desire. In the distance there are three pyramids beneath a cloudless blue sky.

A King sits upon a throne which appears to be floating on the turbulent sea. In his right hand he holds a cup and in his left hand a scepter of authority. His right foot touches the waves, as if testing the waters. In the background we can see a smiling fish leaping from the waves behind him and the red sails of a receding boat which has set a course for distant unknown shores. The king wears a golden emblem of a fish on a chain around his neck to signify his comfortable existence in emotional waters.

This white clad queen is seated upon a throne at the edge of a body of water. The ground beneath her feet is scattered with colorful shells and stones. Her throne is decorated with carvings of cherubs and fish. In her hand she holds a covered cup flanked with two winged figurines reminiscent of the figures guarding the Arc of the Covenant. The distant cliffs are unoccupied and the sky overhead is blue and cloudless.

His armor is overlayed with a cloak bearing crimson decorations and instead of spurs, his heels are winged to match his helmet. The cloudless blue sky offers no distraction to his steady forward gaze.
